Visual Arts
Visual Design is the name given to Morley SHS’s faculty, which offers special educational benefits to students in the area of the Visual Arts. Students may undertake any of the Visual Design subjects beginning in Year 8.
Year 8 students are given a general introduction to Visual Design and the use of technology in creating different Arts products. The Year 8 Visual Technology unit exposes students to a range of Visual Design disciplines, namely Art and Craft, Graphic Design and Multimedia, Media Studies and Photography. This enables the students to be informed when they make more specific selections about the visual arts subjects they may choose in Years 9 and 10.
Students in Years 9 and 10 may choose one or more of the following Visual Design subjects - Art, Craft, Art Technology Photography, Graphic Arts and Multimedia and Media Studies
Years 11 & 12 Provision is made for students who enter the Visual Design subjects and programs in Years 11 and 12. Students may choose to undertake a conventional course of study inclusive of Visual Design subjects, or select Morley SHS’s specialist Visual Industry Design (VID) program.
Students considering a career or further study in the Visual Arts Industry (e.g. Graphic Design, Multimedia Design, Web Page Design, Photography and/or Television Production etc) should consider the Visual Industry Design program. In this program the students develop their knowledge and skills as well as broaden their Arts experiences through the subjects of Senior English, Art and Design, Visual Communication - Graphics Technology, Audio Visual Production, Visual Communication - Photography, Structured Work-Based Learning and Certificate II in Interactive Multimedia and Certificate II in Television Broadcasting.
In completing the Visual Industry Design program, students should have received around 1000 hours of specialised instruction and tuition, over 200 hours of Industry and Design work experience, achieve Secondary Graduation and attain nationally recognised Certificates in Multimedia and Broadcasting.
