Morley Senior High School Institute of Soccer
The purpose of the Institute of Soccer is to provide students with practices which they can use to help improve their techniques and to develop their play from “technique learning” to “skill learning” by putting these techniques to test in realistic practice situations.
Coaching is provided in dribbling, tackling, heading, kicking, shooting, ball control and goalkeeping.
Individual skills are then translated into team skills, team set- ups and set plays. The Institute of Soccer is committed to delivering professional coaching including related areas such as fitness, sports injury management, physiological needs for soccer diet and nutrition, refereeing plus codes of conduct.
Students in the Institute of Soccer will study soccer for two periods per week for the year. Additionally they may embark on a before and / or after school soccer development program. Coaching is provided by Nigel Jones MSc BSc (Sports Science) Dip Ed a highly qualified coach with 20 years of international experience. The Institute of Soccer is sponsored and supported by Bobby Despotovski the renowned WA soccer star via equipment, coaching and assisting in the selection process.
Students selected in the Institute of Soccer have a commitment to participate in the School Soccer team and be involved in the required practices and performances.
Depending on sound performance, a player can progress from year 8 through to year 12 in the soccer program.
Selection process involves annual trials at primary schools, a mid year Primary
School Soccer Carnival held by Morley Senior High or by nomination directly to the Soccer Coordinator, Mr Jones
Students accepted in the Institute of Soccer are eligible to be awarded an Introduction to Coaching certificate or Junior Coaching Licence.
