Morley Vision
Morley’s weekly breakfast TV show
Fully planned and produced by Morley SHS students
A vision which began 14 years ago will soon reach an important milestone when students at Morley Senior High School put to air their 300th live television program.
The only school in Western Australia to specialise in multi media and broadcasting, the 300th edition of the school’s weekly information program, Morley Vision, is just the latest landmark for a course that has continued to notch up successes.
In 1989 the school decided to focus on visual arts. Since then a series of dedicated media teachers have helped shape what has become one of the most renowned media courses in the State.
In 2001 the school added to its position with the construction of a fully functioning television studio and control room, audio recording studio and the latest in digital editing technology.
What made Morley standout in the delivery of media studies was not just the chance to gain first-hand experience in television production, but the opportunity it provided for students to achieve a Certificate II in Broadcasting (Television).
Traditionally a course which has attracted more non-TEE students, appropriate competencies are imbedded in the VET version of the Media Production and Analysis course of study.
In order to best meet the needs of our clients, the students, Morley is investigating the new entry level qualification Certificate II in Creative Industries (CRE20107) that has been proposed to replace the existing Certificate II in Broadcasting (Television) which will have a major impact on what we offer.
Not surprisingly, the course attracts students from outside the school catchment area
A measure of its success is the growing list of former students carving out careers in the media. These include a number working as television journalists, camera operators and a variety of production roles both here and in the Eastern States.
The media program and its flagship Morley Vision has been the launching pad for many Morley SHS students into the media including:
Michael Tetlow: Journalist Ch.10 & Ch.9;
Jeremy Fernandez: Journalist ABC;
Glenn Clarke: camera operator Ch 9;
Clint Drieberg now at Network 10 in Melbourne as Producer on 9am With David & Kim. (Made the switch from radio to television and the leap from Sydney to Melbourne after 8 years of producing breakfast shows in stints at 6PR and 92.9 in Perth, B105 in Brisbane and most recently as Executive Producer at Mix 106.5 in Sydney.)
